Fri Jan 17 07:45:21 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Aims to Become Global Higher Education Hub

**Thiruvananthapuram, January 17, 2025** – The Kerala government has unveiled ambitious plans to establish the state as a leading global hub for higher education. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, in his policy address to the Assembly, announced the launch of the “Study in Kerala” initiative for the 2025-26 academic year, targeting international students.

This initiative will be supported by the establishment of skill development and career planning centers in all higher education institutions, complementing the recently implemented Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). The government’s strategy emphasizes both inclusivity and quality, focusing on skill development, industry-academia collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Curriculum revisions are also underway to meet modern needs, aiming to transform Kerala into a knowledge-based society.

The Governor highlighted significant progress in the higher education sector, attributing success to the recommendations of the Commission for Reforms in Higher Education. Key achievements include the successful FYUP implementation, a unified academic calendar, and substantial grants under the PM-USHA scheme for infrastructure improvement. The introduction of K-Reap, an advanced enterprise resource planning software, aims to enhance administrative efficiency in universities.

Kerala’s higher education institutions have also seen notable rankings, with several state universities achieving high NAAC grades, and several securing top positions in the NIRF rankings. All government engineering colleges now hold NBA accreditation. The government remains committed to improving the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) and overall educational quality through academic and infrastructure development, research, and student mentoring, including the establishment of seven new Centers of Excellence.
