Fri Jan 17 13:04:21 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh to Reorganize 4,034 School Complexes to Improve Education
**Vijayawada, January 17, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a plan to reorganize 4,034 school complexes across the state to enhance the quality of education. The initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to streamline teacher training, improve monitoring of educational outcomes, and better equip schools to meet evolving student needs.
The reorganization will group smaller schools, many with fewer than 30 students, into larger complexes centered around a secondary school. This model, designed to address inefficiencies in resource allocation and teacher isolation prevalent in smaller schools, will allow for shared resources, such as specialized teachers, labs, and sports equipment.
The state’s School Education Secretary, Kona Sasidhar, acknowledged challenges in implementing the plan. These include geographical dispersion, poor rural infrastructure, teacher shortages, and uneven infrastructure availability. He also noted community and educator concerns about potential loss of local school identity.
To overcome these challenges, the government conducted extensive reviews and consultations with stakeholders. The resulting plan focuses on several key parameters: grouping schools within a panchayat, ensuring each complex has 40-50 teachers and 800-1000 students, limiting the number of schools per complex (10-15 in rural areas, 8-10 in urban areas), maintaining proximity (10-15 km radius in rural areas, 5-10 km in urban areas), and including all government and local body schools within the designated parameters. The reorganization aims to create a more efficient and effective education system in Andhra Pradesh.
