Fri Jan 17 11:40:11 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Lifts Strictest Air Pollution Restrictions After One Day

**New Delhi, India** – The Delhi-NCR region has lifted the strictest Stage 4 air pollution restrictions just one day after they were implemented, authorities announced Thursday. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked the measures following a slight improvement in air quality due to light rainfall and a change in meteorological conditions.

The Stage 4 restrictions, part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), were put in place on Wednesday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) soared to 396, nearing the “Severe” category. These restrictions included a ban on non-essential construction and the implementation of traffic restrictions on certain vehicles. Schools were also required to shift to a hybrid learning model.

Thursday morning’s rainfall improved the AQI to the “Poor” category, prompting the CAQM to ease restrictions. However, Stage 3 restrictions remain in effect as cold weather and fog persist. The CAQM continues to monitor air quality closely, warning residents to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions. The worsening air quality is attributed to a combination of factors including vehicle emissions, stubble burning, and adverse weather conditions. While the immediate crisis has subsided, authorities emphasize the continued need for vigilance to prevent further deterioration.
