Fri Jan 17 15:47:07 UTC 2025: ## Thrissur Congress Councillors Protest Crumbling Roads, Demand Answers from Ruling Party

**Thrissur, Kerala, January 17, 2025** – Congress councillors in Thrissur staged a road blockade on Friday, protesting the deplorable condition of roads within the corporation limits. Led by Opposition leader Rajan J. Pallan, the protest highlighted the lack of road repairs despite the cessation of rains over a month and a half ago.

Pallan criticized the ruling CPI(M) and the Mayor for failing to address the issue, despite receiving substantial funds under the Amrut Scheme and collecting significant building taxes. He condemned the Mayor’s earlier promise to repair all roads within a week as an empty pledge, demanding an explanation for the apparent misallocation of road surfacing funds. Deputy Leader E.V. Sunilraj also participated in the protest.

The protest also extended beyond local concerns. Pallan accused Thrissur MP and Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi of inaction regarding the repatriation of Binil Babu, who died in a shell attack while serving in the Russian army, and the safe return of injured youth Jain Kurian from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He further criticized the central government’s lack of action to prevent and address the increasing number of young Indians falling victim to illegal recruitment scams abroad.
