**Mumbai, India** – Devajit Saikia, a former first-class cricketer and Advocate General of Assam, has been elected unopposed as the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Saikia’s appointment follows a Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Sunday.

His immediate priorities include addressing India’s recent struggles in Test cricket, particularly the losses against Australia and New Zealand. Saikia acknowledged the challenges ahead, citing the upcoming home series against England and the Champions Trophy in Dubai as key focus areas. He stated that the BCCI will be incorporating expert opinions to overcome identified weaknesses and is committed to a strategic approach, focusing on one tournament at a time. He also plans to build on the work of his predecessor, Jay Shah.

Saikia’s experience includes overseeing successful IPL matches and World Cup warm-up matches hosted by the Assam Cricket Association.

In other BCCI news, the IPL Governing Council confirmed that the IPL 2025 season will commence on March 21st at the Eden Gardens, which will also host the final on May 25th. Hyderabad is expected to host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) will begin on February 7th across four venues.
