Mon Jan 13 03:33:15 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru to Get New US Consulate; Site Dedication Ceremony Set for January 17

**Bengaluru, India –** A site dedication ceremony for the highly anticipated new US Consulate in Bengaluru is scheduled for January 17th, according to a social media invitation. While the exact location remains undisclosed, the announcement is expected during the ceremony itself. The consulate will initially operate temporarily from the JW Marriott Hotel on Vittal Mallya Road, where visa services will begin. Eventually, operations will move to a permanent facility.

The news follows earlier announcements by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who attributed the consulate’s establishment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts during his 2023 US visit. Surya highlighted the significant inconvenience faced by Bengaluru residents, who previously had to travel to Chennai, Hyderabad, or Delhi for US visa services, incurring substantial travel costs. He estimated that the new consulate will benefit 4 to 5 lakh people annually in Karnataka.

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti previously acknowledged the oversight of lacking a consulate in Bengaluru, a city recognized globally for its technological prowess. The absence of a consulate in India’s IT hub, which generates 40% of the nation’s IT revenue, was a significant impediment for the large number of students and tech professionals traveling to the United States. The opening of the consulate is expected to significantly streamline visa processing for thousands in the region.
