**Mumbai, January 12, 2025** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, electing Devjit Saikia as its new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as its new treasurer. Both were elected unopposed.

Saikia, who served as interim secretary following Jay Shah’s appointment as International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman on December 1st, now assumes the role permanently. Bhatia succeeds Ashish Shelar, who recently took office as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.

The deadline for nominations closed last week, with the withdrawal deadline concluding Tuesday afternoon. The final list of candidates, compiled by former Chief Election Commissioner of India Achal Kumar Jyoti, contained only Saikia and Bhatia.

Saikia, 55, hails from Assam and is a former cricketer, having played four first-class matches for Assam. A wicketkeeper-batsman, he also boasts a legal background and significant administrative experience, including serving as the Advocate General of Assam. He previously held key positions within the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), rising from vice-president to secretary before joining the BCCI in 2022.

Bhatia, from Chhattisgarh, is a former president of the Chhattisgarh Cricket Sangh (CSCS) and son of prominent industrialist Baldev Singh Bhatia, also a former CSCS president.

The unopposed elections mark a smooth transition in BCCI leadership.
