Sun Jan 12 16:44:03 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Urges Journalists to Prioritize Truth in Reporting

**Bengaluru, January 12, 2025** – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday called on journalists to prioritize truth and avoid sensationalism, emphasizing the crucial role of the media in representing the voice of the people. Speaking at the Press Club of Bangalore’s (PCB) Suvarna Mahotsava Award ceremony, where he felicitated several journalists, including two from *The Hindu*, Mr. Siddaramaiah stated that he welcomes constructive criticism but dismissed politically motivated attacks.

He criticized the BJP for allegedly copying Karnataka’s guarantee schemes and spreading false information about their implementation. The Chief Minister also highlighted the rise of speculative journalism and urged reporters to uphold their journalistic integrity. He cited an example of media coverage surrounding an incident involving a crow landing on his car, which led to unfounded astrological predictions about his political future. This, he argued, demonstrated the potential for irresponsible reporting to undermine media credibility.

Two *Hindu* journalists received awards at the ceremony: Digital Editor Subhash Kevin Rai, who was among five recipients of the Suvarna Mahotsava Award, and Senior Deputy Editor Nagesh Prabhu, who received an annual award for 2024. The event also marked the launch of the PCB’s new website.
