Sat Jan 11 22:49:21 UTC 2025: ## India Cricket Team Faces Major Overhaul After Australia Series Losses

**Mumbai, January 11, 2025** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct a major review of the Indian cricket team following consecutive Test series defeats against New Zealand and Australia. A meeting between head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and BCCI officials will assess the performances of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, whose recent struggles with the bat have come under intense scrutiny.

The meeting will discuss the future of Kohli and Sharma, focusing on a potential transition plan for the team. While the senior batsmen are expected to be given another opportunity to prove themselves in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 (a 50-over format where they excel), their future in Test cricket is less certain. Their recent performances in the Australia series – Kohli scoring 190 runs at an average of 23.75 and Rohit managing just 31 runs at 6.2 – will be a key point of discussion. Gambhir’s views on their continued involvement in Test matches will be crucial.

The performance of Gambhir’s coaching staff will also be evaluated, with a focus on their strategy for managing the team’s transition.

Separately, the selectors will meet to finalize the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, starting February 20th in the UAE. The fitness of key pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will be a deciding factor. While Shami’s recovery from ankle surgery is looking positive, Bumrah and Akash Deep will miss the upcoming white-ball series against England due to injuries. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed in Australia, are strong contenders for selection in either the ODI or T20I squads for the England series starting January 22nd. The T20I squad is expected to largely mirror the team that played in South Africa late last year.
