Sun Jan 12 14:57:12 UTC 2025: ## NDA Boycotts Erode (East) Bypoll, Eyes 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

**Chennai, January 12, 2025** – The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, led by BJP state president K. Annamalai, announced on Sunday that it will boycott the Erode (East) by-election scheduled for February 5th. This follows the AIADMK’s earlier decision to withdraw from the contest.

Annamalai cited concerns about alleged voter suppression and violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2023 by-election in the same constituency, claiming voters were treated like “cattle in a barn.” He accused the ruling DMK government of widespread corruption, deteriorating law and order, high unemployment, and a lack of safety for women and children.

The BJP leader asserted that the NDA’s focus is now on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, aiming to unseat the DMK. He further criticized the DMK government for acting against the principles of B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
