Sun Jan 12 15:10:48 UTC 2025: ## 19-Year Drought Ends: Boominathar Temple Car Festival Returns to Tirunelveli

**Tirunelveli, January 12, 2025** – After a 19-year hiatus, the Boominathar Temple car festival returned to Veeravanallur in Tirunelveli district on Sunday. The festival, which features a procession of the presiding deities, Boominathan and Sri Maragadhambikai, was stalled due to damage to the temple car in an accident 19 years ago and the lack of suitable roads for the procession.

Following intervention from Tirunelveli Collector K.P. Karthikeyan, who secured ₹1 crore in funding from the state government, road improvements were undertaken. This included widening a 700-meter stretch of road around the temple and constructing two culverts. The improvements enabled the successful revival of the much-anticipated Margazhi Thiruvathira festival.

Collector Karthikeyan, along with Cheranmahadevi Sub Collector Arpeet Jain and former Assembly Speaker R. Avudaiyappan, were present at the event. The successful return of the festival is a testament to the collective efforts of local officials and the community.
