Sat Jan 11 19:39:50 UTC 2025: ## 16,000 Police Officers to Secure Chennai’s Pongal Celebrations

**Chennai, January 12, 2025** – The Greater Chennai City Police are implementing extensive security measures for the upcoming Kaanum Pongal festival on January 16th. Anticipating large crowds at Marina Beach and other popular locations, 16,000 police personnel, including officers from the Armed Reserve and Tamil Nadu Special Police, will be deployed. An additional 1,500 Home Guards will also be on duty.

To ensure swift response to any emergencies, three temporary mini control rooms have been established, along with police assistance booths at seven service road entrances. Eight ambulances with medical teams and two fire tenders will be stationed along the beach, and mechanized boats, supported by 200 volunteer swimmers, will be on standby for rescue operations. These comprehensive security arrangements are being made under the direction of Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun.
