Sat Jan 11 18:55:40 UTC 2025: ## Three Arrested in Tamil Nadu for Smuggling 500kg of Gutkha
**TIRUPATTUR, Tamil Nadu – January 12, 2025** – Ambur Town police apprehended three individuals on Saturday for possessing 500 kilograms of gutkha, a banned substance. The seizure occurred during a vehicle inspection at Kannigapuram village, near Ambur, on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.
The suspects, identified as I. Javeed (24), S. Imtiaz (22), and Mohammed Akbar (23), all residents of Vaniyambadi, attempted to evade police by speeding away in a car and a two-wheeler. Police pursued and apprehended them approximately one kilometer from the checkpoint. The gutkha, packaged in 62 gunny bags, was discovered in their vehicles.
Preliminary investigations suggest the gutkha was smuggled from Karnataka through Krishnagiri district. The three men have been arrested and lodged in Tirupattur sub-jail, while the vehicles have been seized. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
