Sat Jan 11 08:41:57 UTC 2025: ## Drone Warfare Intensifies in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
**Moscow, January 11, 2025** – The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine witnessed a significant escalation in drone warfare over the weekend. Both sides reported widespread drone attacks and interceptions, highlighting the increasing reliance on inexpensive commercial drones as deadly weapons.
On Saturday, Russia announced that Ukrainian drone strikes targeted several regions, including the Tambov region where two residential houses were hit, injuring at least three people. Regional officials reported minor damage to the buildings and provided temporary housing to affected residents.
Simultaneously, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 85 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, including significant numbers over the Black Sea and Azov Sea. The disruptions led to temporary flight suspensions at several airports in the Volga River region.
Ukraine’s Air Force, in a counter-statement, reported that Russia launched 74 drones at Ukraine, claiming to have shot down 47, with the remaining 27 disappearing from radar before reaching their targets.
The increased use of commercially available drones in the conflict has been widely documented, with both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers expressing fear of drone attacks. Both sides are reportedly using video footage of drone strikes in their propaganda efforts.
Friday also saw Russia accusing Ukraine of a missile strike on a supermarket in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk. The escalating use of drones and other weaponry underscores the continuing intensity of the conflict.
