Thu Jan 09 08:20:51 UTC 2025: ## Desperate Farmer Dies by Suicide at Punjab Protest Site

**Patiala, Punjab –** A 55-year-old farmer participating in a year-long protest at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana died by suicide on Thursday, January 9, 2025. This marks the second suicide at the protest site in three weeks, highlighting the growing desperation among farmers demanding Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees from the central government.

Resham Singh, from Tarn Taran district, took his own life at the Shambhu border, where farmers under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been camped since February 13, 2024. He was reportedly upset by the government’s inaction despite the prolonged protest. Singh was transported to Rajindra hospital in Patiala, where he succumbed to his injuries.

This tragic incident follows the December 18 suicide of another farmer, Ranjodh Singh, also at the Shambhu border. His distress was reportedly linked to the deteriorating health of fellow farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike since November 26 at the nearby Khanauri border.

The farmers’ protest began after security forces blocked their march to Delhi. They continue to demand government-guaranteed MSP for their crops. Those experiencing distress or suicidal thoughts are urged to seek help. (Contact information omitted for brevity, but present in original text).
