**Kalaburagi, January 8, 2025** – Members of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) in Kalaburagi staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The protestors, led by district president Bheemshetty Yempalli, delivered a memorandum to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge.
Key demands included a crackdown on alleged corruption involving fake job cards and false attendance records, and an increase in the number of working days under the scheme from the current amount to 200 days, with a daily wage hike to ₹600. The union also highlighted difficulties faced by rural workers in using the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) due to poor internet access. The protestors argued that effective MGNREGA implementation is crucial to prevent rural-urban migration.
