
Tue Jan 07 01:14:45 UTC 2025: ## Udupi Receives ₹63 Lakh in Assistive Devices for Disabled and Elderly
**Manipal, Karnataka –** Over ₹63 lakh worth of assistive devices were distributed to 609 beneficiaries in Udupi district on Monday, January 6, 2024. The initiative, under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s Assistance to Disabled Persons and Assisted Living Devices to Senior Citizens schemes, provided hearing aids, wheelchairs, smartphones, and other devices. The devices were supplied by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, who attended the distribution event, advocated for a local repair center in Udupi for the devices. He highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering the differently-abled and senior citizens through various schemes and the provision of quality assistive devices nationwide, totaling ₹51 crore this year.
Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari emphasized the rigorous selection process to ensure the benefits reached the deserving individuals, enabling them to live with greater independence and dignity. She also mentioned that ALIMCO would handle minor repairs, and the administration plans to propose a dedicated repair center in Udupi.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna and other local officials also attended the event, reiterating the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for all citizens.
