Mon Jan 06 15:04:33 UTC 2025: ## Prashant Kishor Released on Unconditional Bail After BPSC Exam Protest
**Patna, Bihar:** Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraj Party, was arrested on Monday morning following a five-day hunger strike protesting the alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 70th preliminary examination. He was initially granted conditional bail by a Patna court but refused to accept it, stating that the conditions would restrict his future protests. He was subsequently released on unconditional bail after the court removed the imposed conditions.
Kishor, who displayed a victory sign upon his release, had been detained from Gandhi Maidan and taken to Beur Jail. He maintained that his hunger strike would continue, even from within the jail. His release came after approximately three hours in detention, during which time the court issued an order for his unconditional release.
The conditional bail initially required Kishor to provide a personal bond of ₹25,000 and promise not to repeat such actions. He rejected these conditions, asserting that protesting is his right. His party, Jan Suraj, celebrated his release, claiming the system bowed to his Satyagraha (civil disobedience).
Kishor’s arrest and subsequent release sparked reactions. Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav satirically referred to the events as a “film” with Kishor playing multiple roles. Meanwhile, a delegation from the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) opposition met with the Governor to demand a re-examination of the BPSC exam. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) also demanded a sitting judge lead an investigation into the alleged irregularities. Patna’s District Magistrate reported that 43 people, including several from outside Bihar, were arrested during Kishor’s protest. Kishor himself denied any conflict with the police. He is scheduled to address a press conference later tonight.
