**SHIVAMOGGA, January 6, 2025** – Shivamogga police have arrested a 26-year-old man, Souharda Patel, for sending suspicious parcels containing poisoned sweets to three individuals. The parcels were falsely attributed to BJP MLC Dr. Dhananjay Sarji.
Patel, a resident of Shivamogga, targeted S.N. Nagaraj, secretary of the National Education Institute, and two psychiatrists. The parcels, disguised as sweet boxes with a New Year’s greeting from the MLC, contained sweets laced with medication.
Nagaraj, noticing the unusual taste of the sweets, alerted Dr. Sarji, who confirmed he had not sent any parcels. A subsequent police investigation revealed Patel’s motive stemmed from personal grievances with the recipients. He held a grudge against Nagaraj from his college days and had previously consulted the psychiatrists for depression. He allegedly used the medication prescribed for his own depression to poison the sweets.
Patel, reportedly believing the parcels would be taken more seriously if sent in the MLC’s name, used a courier service in Bhadravati. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
