Sat Jan 04 04:13:22 UTC 2025: ## Sikkim Governor Visits Doklam, Meets with Army Personnel

**Gangtok, Sikkim – January 4, 2025** – Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur visited the Doklam region on Friday, January 3, 2025, and interacted with Indian Army personnel stationed there, according to an official statement. The visit, which also included Rajasthan’s Forest and Environment Minister Sanjay Sharma, comes years after a tense standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in the area in 2017.

Located at an altitude of 15,600 feet, Doklam holds significant strategic importance. Governor Mathur’s visit began with a warm welcome at 8th Mile JN Road, where he was greeted by local residents and officials. He planted an oak tree and discussed development and environmental conservation with local panchayat members.

In Doklam, the Governor was received by Major General M.S. Rathore, the General Officer Commanding of the 17th Mountain Division. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their service and commended their bravery and dedication to safeguarding national security.

The Governor’s itinerary also included a visit to Kupup, home to the world’s highest golf course, and Dichu village, where he interacted with locals and addressed their concerns. He assured them of assistance through the Raj Bhavan.
