Sat Jan 04 14:49:55 UTC 2025: ## New Novel Explores Rural Life in Northwestern Karnataka
**Belagavi, January 4, 2025** – *Sadar Bazar*, the debut novel by Dada Saheb Chougale, was launched at Sapna Book House in Belagavi on Saturday. The book, described as a realistic portrayal of rural life in the dry, northwestern region bordering Maharashtra, offers a non-romanticized look at farming and the lives of its inhabitants.
Author Balasaheb Lokapur, speaking at the launch, praised Chougale’s work, highlighting its unique approach to depicting rural life and its exploration of generational gaps. He noted the novel’s use of the Kannada-Marathi dialect prevalent in the Chikkodi-Nippani border region, seamlessly integrated into the narrative. Lokapur encouraged young writers to prioritize authenticity over adherence to Western literary trends.
Chougale himself explained that the novel, written after his retirement from a college, stemmed from a short story he penned two decades prior. He emphasized his intention to present a raw, unvarnished view of rural life, incorporating elements from his childhood experiences. The novel centers on a young artist grappling with creative pressures and the choices life presents, ultimately exploring the interconnectedness of humanity.
Fellow writer Dilawar Ramadurg further lauded *Sadar Bazar*, suggesting its ambition surpasses that of many contemporary works. He noted the novel’s journey from a small-town setting to a deeper exploration of life’s fundamental questions, touching upon themes of spirituality and the artist’s internal conflicts.
The launch event was attended by several writers and personalities from the literary and theatre scene. *Sadar Bazar* is now available at Sapna Book House.
