Fri Jan 03 16:57:07 UTC 2025: **Karnataka High Court Orders Transparency Portal for Hostel Food Supplies**

**Bengaluru, January 3, 2025** – The Karnataka High Court has mandated the state government to establish a transparent online portal detailing food suppliers to state-run hostels and enabling public feedback on food quality. The order, issued on January 3rd, followed the rejection of petitions from several traders challenging new tender conditions for hostel food procurement.

The court’s decision stems from the government’s announcement of a soon-to-be-launched portal designed to allow students and others to file complaints about food quality and track the subsequent actions taken. The portal will also include details of inspections conducted by authorities and any resulting disciplinary actions.

Justice Suraj Govindaraj deemed the changes to the tender conditions fair and reasonable, citing the planned transparency portal as a key factor in dismissing the petitions. The government has been instructed to submit a report on the portal’s progress by January 30th. The new system aims to enhance accountability and improve food quality in pre- and post-matric hostels run by the Backward Classes Welfare Department across the state.
