**Hyderabad, January 3, 2025** – BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha led a day-long protest in Hyderabad on Friday demanding 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in upcoming local body elections. Kavitha accused both the Congress and BJP of historically neglecting BCs, citing the lack of a caste census since Independence and criticizing the Congress’s rejection of the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report and suppression of the Mandal Commission report. She also blamed both parties for the non-release of the 2011 caste census report, with the BJP further accused of outright refusal to conduct a new one.
Kavitha called for the inclusion of a caste census in the national census, the installation of a Jyothiba Phule statue at the Assembly, and the implementation of the Kamareddy BC declaration. She highlighted the importance of accurate representation for BCs and emphasized the need for unity across societal sections to achieve justice. She also lauded Savitribai Phule as a social reformer and inspiration. The protest was attended by several BC leaders. Kavitha’s demands were directed at the Revanth Reddy government, urging them to protect the rights of all communities. She defended her focus on BC issues, stating that her actions are driven by necessity in response to criticism from Congress leaders.
