GLENDALE, Ariz. – Penn State routed Boise State 31-14 in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday night, securing a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Despite a strong performance from Boise State’s Heisman Trophy runner-up running back, Ashton Jeanty, who managed 104 yards on 30 carries, the Nittany Lions’ defense effectively contained him, limiting his yardage significantly below his season average.

Penn State’s victory was a team effort. Quarterback Drew Allar threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns, while the running game contributed 216 yards, with Kaytron Allen leading the charge with 134 yards. The Nittany Lions’ defense was equally impressive, forcing turnovers and consistently applying pressure. Safety Zakee Wheatley highlighted the defensive effort with an interception and a fumble recovery.

Boise State, known for its ability to overcome adversity, fought back from an early 14-0 deficit, briefly narrowing the gap to 17-14 in the third quarter. However, Penn State responded with a decisive run and another touchdown pass, effectively securing the win.

Boise State’s coach, Spencer Danielson, acknowledged his team’s valiant effort despite falling short, highlighting their ability to make a comeback. Jeanty himself attributed the loss to Penn State’s strong defensive execution and Boise State’s subpar performance.

Penn State will now face either No. 2 Georgia or No. 3 Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on January 9th. Boise State will begin its 2025 season on August 30th against South Florida.
