**Chennai, January 2, 2025** – The vibrant tradition of Carnatic music continues to flourish in Chennai, with two contrasting events showcasing the genre’s enduring appeal. A decades-long free concert series at the Sri Kothandaramar temple in Washermenpet has drawn residents for 35 years, rain or shine. The daily performances, featuring Thevarams, Thiruarutpas, and other Tamil songs, have become a cherished community tradition. Renowned vocalist Seerkazhi Sivachidambaram, who has performed at the event for at least 30 years, highlighted its unique atmosphere and the enthusiastic participation of both performers and audience.

Meanwhile, a newer initiative, OhMaRgazhi, brought Carnatic music to a wider audience in Thoraipakkam. Organized by Ramaniyam Builders’ Lasya project and FOMRRA, the festival provided free transportation, refreshments, and performances, including those by renowned artists S. Sowmya and Sivasri Skandaprasad, attracting attendees from surrounding areas. Residents expressed their appreciation for the inclusive approach, noting the event’s success in engaging a younger demographic. Both events demonstrate the continued vitality of Carnatic music and its ability to connect with audiences across generations and geographies.
