**Vijayawada, December 27, 2024** – The Andhra Pradesh Fire Services Department is set to undergo a significant modernization, receiving ₹252 crore in funding under the 15th Finance Commission. The project, commencing January 1, 2025, and slated for completion by March 2026, will include the purchase of 100 new fire tenders and 100 inflatable rubber boats.
Director (North Zone) G. Srinivasulu announced the initiative Thursday during an inspection of the Auto Nagar fire station in Vijayawada. The funding, comprising 75% from the Government of India and 25% from the state government, will also support the filling of approximately 600 vacant positions within the department.
Further modernization plans include the opening of 17 new fire stations and the upgrade of three existing outposts. All fire stations will receive new rescue equipment and fire kits, with accompanying training for personnel. The department also plans to conduct thorough inspections of hospitals, high-rise buildings, and industrial areas to prevent future fire accidents.
