**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Indian stock exchanges, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas. This marks the final market holiday of 2024, with major global markets in the UK, US, and Europe also observing the holiday. Trading will resume on December 26th.

The closure affects all segments, including stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing. Commodity markets, such as MCX and NCDEX, will also remain shut for the entire day.

The exchanges have also released the 2025 holiday calendar, which includes 14 trading holidays for the Indian markets. Notable dates include Mahashivratri (February 26th), Holi (March 14th), and several religious and national holidays throughout the year. Muhurat trading is scheduled for October 21st, 2025, for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, with specific timings to be announced later.

Before the Christmas closure, Indian markets saw a positive end to a five-day losing streak. The BSE Sensex gained 0.64% (498.58 points) to close at 78,540.17, while the NSE Nifty50 rose 0.95% (165 points) to 23,753.45. Top gainers included ITC, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and IndusInd Bank.

The regular trading hours for the Indian stock market are 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with a pre-open session from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM.
