**Visakhapatnam, December 26, 2024** – The recently released Telugu film “Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes,” starring Venella Kishore, Ananya Nagalla, and Shiya Gautam, has received a lukewarm reception from critics and audiences alike. Despite pre-release buzz generated by its writer-director, Writer Mohan, and distributor Vamsi Nandapati, the film has failed to live up to expectations.
The movie, a crime thriller set against the backdrop of the 1991 assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, follows private detective Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes (Venella Kishore) as he investigates the murder of a young woman, Puli Dandhi Mary, in Bheemili. The case is assigned to him by a pressured CI Bhaskar (Aneesh Kuruvilla) who is also investigating the aftermath of Gandhi’s assassination.
While the initial premise is intriguing, critics point to a lack of compelling plot development and unconvincing characters as the film’s major flaws. The investigation feels rushed and lacks the thrilling twists and turns expected of a detective story. The romantic subplot between Balu (Raviteja) and Bhrama (Ananya Nagalla) is deemed silly and unnecessary. The film’s attempts at humor fall flat, and the dialogue is criticized for being overly dramatic and lacking logic.
Although Ananya Nagalla delivers a decent performance with a multi-layered character, Venella Kishore’s portrayal of the titular detective is underwhelming, failing to deliver the charisma and ingenuity expected from the role. The supporting cast, including Shiya Gupta and Bahubali Prabhakar, are equally underutilized.
While the cinematography is deemed satisfactory, the music by Sunil Kashyap and the overall script are seen as significant weaknesses. The climax, though providing some resolution, lacks the impact needed to salvage the film. Overall, “Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes” is considered a missed opportunity, a crime thriller that fails to engage or excite its audience.
