VIJAYAWADA, December 24, 2024 – Seventeen Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana appeared before the Special Court for MPs and MLAs in Vijayawada today. The leaders, including former Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu, are facing charges stemming from a 2007 visit to the Obulapuram iron ore mines.
The case originates from an incident on July 21, 2007, when the then-opposition TDP leaders visited the mines in Anantapur district despite restrictions being in place. Police apprehended them at the time. The leaders maintain their innocence.
The court adjourned the hearing until January 8, 2025. The case continues to be a significant political issue in the state.
