**CHENNAI, INDIA – DECEMBER 21** – Director Vetrimaaran’s highly anticipated period action drama, *Viduthalai Part 2*, enjoyed a successful opening day at the box office, grossing an estimated ₹7 crore nett in India. The film, starring Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, and Soori, premiered in Tamil and Telugu on Friday, December 20th. Initial box office reports indicate a strong 38.5% Tamil occupancy and 19.79% Telugu occupancy on its first day. Producers RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company are optimistic about increased collections over the weekend.
*Viduthalai Part 2*, a sequel to the March 2023 release *Viduthalai Part 1*, continues the story from where the first film left off. While *Viduthalai Part 1* grossed ₹3.5 crore on its opening day and ultimately ₹60 crore in its lifetime, director Vetrimaaran recently revealed the production faced significant challenges, escalating its budget from an initial estimate of ₹4.5 crore to ₹65 crore. The film’s OTT rights have been acquired by ZEE5, with a digital premiere expected in January 2025.
