**Bengaluru, Karnataka –** BJP MLC CT Ravi was granted interim bail on Friday by the Karnataka High Court following his arrest for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. Ravi, who claimed he was treated “like a terrorist,” was released following an interim order from Justice MG Uma. His arrest sparked outrage within the BJP, with accusations of a “police raj” and dictatorial actions levelled against the Congress-led state government.
Ravi’s arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by Hebbalkar, who alleged he made the remarks during a dispute over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about Babasaheb Ambedkar. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai criticized the arrest, highlighting a perceived lack of due process and contrasting it with the handling of other cases. He pointed to the delay in arrests related to “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans.
Ravi, who remains suspended from the legislative council, has filed a counter-complaint against Hebbalkar, along with several other Congress leaders, accusing them of attempted murder. While expressing relief at his bail, Ravi asserted the High Court’s decision sent a message that everyone must abide by the law. The situation remains tense, with the BJP continuing to criticize the state government’s handling of the matter.
