**Bengaluru, India** – BJP leader C.T. Ravi was granted interim bail on Friday by the Karnataka High Court following his arrest on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory comments against state Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. The arrest stemmed from a heated exchange in the state assembly, where Ravi reportedly used offensive language towards Hebbalkar.
The case was filed under sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ravi, a former BJP general secretary, denies the allegations and claims the arrest was politically motivated, alleging custodial torture and a conspiracy to assassinate him. He has filed a separate complaint claiming this.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah strongly condemned Ravi’s actions, calling the language used “filthy” and a criminal offense. The BJP has protested Ravi’s arrest, accusing the Congress government of running a dictatorship. The High Court, while granting bail, has mandated Ravi’s cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
