Fri Dec 20 16:28:23 UTC 2024: ## ICC Fines South Africa’s Klassen and Afghanistan’s Farooqi for Code of Conduct Breaches

**Cape Town, South Africa/Harare, Zimbabwe:** The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined South African wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen and Afghan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during recent One Day International (ODI) matches.

Klaasen, who scored 97 runs off 74 balls in South Africa’s 81-run loss to Pakistan in Cape Town, was fined 15% of his match fee for damaging the wickets after being dismissed. The ICC cited Level 1 breach of Article 2.2 of the Code, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment and clothing. He also received one demerit point. On-field umpires Alex Wharf and Lubabalo, third umpire Nitin Menon, and fourth umpire Allahudien Paleker reported the incident. Match Referee Richie Richardson confirmed Klaasen accepted the sanction.

Separately, Farooqi was also fined 15% of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during Afghanistan’s match against Zimbabwe in Harare. The ICC stated this was a Level 1 breach under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct. He also received a demerit point. On-field umpires Chris Brown and Percival Sizara, third umpire Langton Rusere, and fourth umpire Iknow Chabi reported the incident. Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft confirmed Farooqi’s acceptance of the penalty.
