**COIMBATORE, INDIA (December 20, 2024)** – Coimbatore is set to host its first-ever Lil Margazhi, a Bharatanatyam dance festival exclusively for children aged 6 to 14. The event, scheduled for January 5th at Kumaraguru Institutions, is the brainchild of Durgesh Nandhini and Avanti Natarajan, two mothers who recognized the significant benefits of arts education for children.
Lil Margazhi will feature young Bharatanatyam dancers, a storytelling session by popular actor Janaki Sabesh, and a panel discussion with renowned dance gurus. The organizers aim to create a supportive community that fosters appreciation for the arts while providing a platform for young performers.
Nandhini, an unschooling mother, highlighted the positive impact of Bharatanatyam on her daughter’s development, noting improvements in mind-body connection, discipline, and even dietary choices. Natarajan echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the discipline and multitasking skills she gained through her own artistic pursuits as a child. She expressed hope that Lil Margazhi will contribute to preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
While the inaugural festival focuses on Bharatanatyam, future editions are planned to incorporate other art forms, including vocal and instrumental music, and potentially painting. The event is open to the public.
