Fri Dec 20 11:44:08 UTC 2024: ## Crores in Gold, Cash Seized in Bhopal Raids, Exposing Potential Political Nexus

**Bhopal, India –** A massive seizure of gold and cash in Bhopal has exposed a suspected nexus between politicians, government officials, and real estate developers. In separate raids conducted by the Income Tax department and the Lokayukta Police, authorities confiscated over ₹50 crore (approximately $6 million USD) in assets.

The most dramatic find involved 52 kg of gold biscuits worth over ₹40 crore (approximately $4.8 million USD) and ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) in cash discovered in an abandoned Innova car in the Mendori forest. The car, reportedly belonging to Chetan Gaur, an associate of former RTO constable Saurabh Sharma, was discovered following intelligence reports of gold being transported via the forest route. Despite a large police presence preventing escape, the vehicle was found empty except for the gold and cash.

Further raids on Sharma’s residence in Arera Colony yielded an additional ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) in cash, half a kilogram of gold, diamonds, silver bars, and property documents. These raids, part of a two-day operation targeting prominent builders, also implicated Rajesh Sharma of Trishul Constructions. Authorities seized ₹3 crore (approximately $360,000 USD) in cash, gold jewelry, and land and property documents from his premises. Investigations are underway to determine the source of the seized assets and to explore alleged links to senior politicians and bureaucrats. The investigations are ongoing and no claims have been made on the seized assets.
