Thu Dec 19 17:58:01 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Files FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Following Parliament Scuffle
**New Delhi:** Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi following a complaint by BJP MPs. The complaint, filed after a scuffle in Parliament, initially accused Gandhi of attempted murder (Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code), along with charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt (Section 115), and other offenses including Sections 117, 125, 131, and 351. However, the Delhi Police have dropped the attempted murder charge (Section 109) while retaining the remaining accusations.
The complaint was lodged by BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Bansuri Swaraj, and Hemang Joshi, who alleged that Gandhi pushed and injured them during a protest near Parliament. Thakur stated that Gandhi’s actions were reckless and that two BJP MPs sustained injuries requiring medical attention. One MP, Pratap Sarangi, an elderly individual with pre-existing heart conditions, received head injuries, raising concerns about potential complications. Another MP, Mukesh Rajput, also suffered head injuries and elevated blood pressure. Doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital are closely monitoring their conditions.
BJP MP, Phangnon Konyak, also wrote to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressing discomfort with Rahul Gandhi’s proximity during the incident.
While the BJP alleges that Gandhi showed disregard for the law and the well-being of other MPs, the Congress has also filed a complaint, prompting counter-accusations from the BJP. The incident has ignited a political firestorm, with both sides trading accusations and highlighting the escalating tensions within the Parliament. The Delhi Police investigation is underway.
