**New Delhi:** The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) announced a significant price reduction of 20% on textbooks for classes 9 to 12, effective from the 2026-27 academic year. NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani revealed the news during a ceremony in Delhi on Monday.
The price cut is attributed to increased efficiency in paper procurement and the adoption of modern printing technology. While textbooks for classes 9-12 will see this reduction, books for classes 1-8 will remain at ₹65 per copy.
To improve accessibility, NCERT has partnered with e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon, ensuring wider availability, including in rural areas. The council plans to significantly increase its textbook printing output from 4-5 crore books annually to 15 crore by next year.
This marks the first substantial price reduction in NCERT textbooks, offering considerable relief to students and their families. The move is seen as a positive step towards making quality education more affordable and accessible across India.
