Mon Dec 16 15:47:30 UTC 2024: **Karnataka Legislators Demand Action on Teacher Promotions, Library Vacancies**
BELAGAVI, Karnataka – December 16, 2024 – The Karnataka Legislative Council convened today to address concerns regarding teacher promotions and library staffing shortages. Council members raised several issues with Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, prompting a commitment to a future meeting with legislators and officials to discuss these matters.
The primary concern centered around the delayed promotions of teachers deemed eligible two years ago. Minister Bangarappa attributed the delay to pending court cases and the need for revised cadre and recruitment rules. Further complaints included the alleged demotion of teachers from classes 1-7 to 1-5, and the numerous unfilled library vacancies affecting students.
Congress members intervened when a council member, H. Vishwanath, criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the Department of Libraries’ shortcomings. Ministers Dinesh Gundu Rao and N.S. Bose Raju requested that the Chief Minister’s name not be invoked in this context.
On a positive note, Minister Bangarappa announced plans to establish a government high school in Bastawad village, the location of the Suvarna Soudha, by next year. The council meeting underscored the need for immediate attention to the issues raised, with a focus on resolving teacher promotion delays and addressing the critical staffing shortages in school libraries.
