Tue Dec 17 06:28:20 UTC 2024: ## Manipur Police Arrest Eight Militants in Connection with Migrant Workers’ Murder

**Imphal, Manipur –** Eight members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) People’s War Group (PWG), a banned militant outfit, were arrested in Manipur’s Kakching district on Tuesday in connection with the recent killing of two migrant labourers from Bihar. Police launched a search operation on December 14th following the murder of the two brothers, Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17).

The operation led to the arrest of one KCP (PWG) member on Monday. Further investigation based on his information resulted in a raid on a militant camp, yielding the arrest of seven more cadres. Authorities also recovered arms, ammunition, and 10 mobile phones from the suspects.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the killings, calling them an act of terrorism and offering ₹10 lakh ex-gratia to each of the victims’ families. He stated that the case may be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) if necessary. The KCP (PWG) is known for its involvement in extortion and other criminal activities in the Imphal Valley.
