Tue Dec 17 08:40:00 UTC 2024: ## India’s Security Concerns Force Champions Trophy 2025 to Hybrid Model: Discontent Brews in Pakistan

**Dubai/Lahore** – The future of the Champions Trophy 2025 remains uncertain, despite a proposed “hybrid” model designed to address India’s refusal to play in Pakistan due to security concerns. While the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed a proposal where India would play its matches in Dubai, with the final also potentially shifting to the UAE should India qualify, the solution has not been universally welcomed.

The plan, reportedly agreed upon by India and Pakistan, would see Pakistan hosting the remaining matches. However, sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement. The PCB’s concession reportedly includes compensation: hosting matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup in Colombo and an ICC women’s event after 2027.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla expressed optimism for a peaceful resolution, stating that player safety is paramount but the board prefers a hybrid model and hopes for an amicable solution with both nations. He emphasized the importance of avoiding any bitterness in the process.

While the ICC has confirmed the hybrid model proposal, official confirmation from the respective boards remains pending, leaving the final decision on the tournament’s format shrouded in uncertainty. The ongoing negotiations highlight the complex geopolitical factors impacting international cricket scheduling.
