Mon Dec 16 19:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Braves Sign Outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to Non-Guaranteed Split Contract

**Atlanta, GA (December 16, 2024)** – The Atlanta Braves announced the signing of outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to a non-guaranteed split contract for the 2025 season, a move that adds depth to their outfield while posing minimal financial risk. The deal comes just a day before De La Cruz’s 28th birthday.

De La Cruz, who spent parts of four seasons with the Miami Marlins before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates mid-season in 2024, brings significant power potential to the Braves. While he hit 37 home runs over 1200 plate appearances from 2021-2023, his production declined sharply in 2024, leading to his non-tender by the Pirates. His 2024 slash line of .233/.271/.384 with 21 home runs, particularly the .200/.220/.294 performance after the trade, contributed to the decision.

The Braves’ outfield is currently thin due to Ronald Acuña Jr.’s recovery from a torn ACL, Jarred Kelenic’s underwhelming 2024 season, and the off-season trade of Jorge Soler. De La Cruz’s contract, therefore, presents a low-risk, high-reward opportunity. He could potentially platoon with Kelenic in left field once Acuña returns, or even fill a starting role in right field during Acuña’s absence. The non-guaranteed nature of the contract allows the Braves to evaluate De La Cruz in Spring Training before committing to a roster spot. He has two minor league option years remaining, offering further flexibility.

The Braves’ need for outfield help is well-documented, however, and this signing doesn’t preclude them from pursuing other, more established options in the coming months. De La Cruz’s ability to consistently translate his power into on-base percentage and overall production will determine his role in Atlanta.
