Mon Dec 16 11:39:21 UTC 2024: ## WPL 2025 Mini-Auction: Gujarat Giants Dominate, Simran Shaikh Crowned Most Expensive Player
**Bengaluru, India** – The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 mini-auction concluded in Bengaluru on December 15th, with Gujarat Giants emerging as the big spenders. A total of 19 slots were filled across the five teams from a pool of 120 players.
The auction saw 17-year-old Simran Shaikh become the most expensive player, fetching a staggering ₹1.90 crore from Gujarat Giants. Deandra Dottin also joined the Giants, acquired for ₹1.70 crore. Mumbai Indians secured 16-year-old all-rounder G Kamalini for ₹1.60 crore. Despite considerable interest in several top international players, including Heather Knight and Lea Tahuhu, the youngest player at the auction, 13-year-old Anshu Nagar, remained unsold.
Each team entered the auction with a purse of ₹15 crore, with the Giants starting with the largest remaining budget of ₹4.4 crore. Delhi Capitals, the two-time runner-up, had the smallest purse at ₹2.5 crore. While several players were retained from the 2024 season, teams strategically released players to optimize their spending for the mini-auction.
Despite this auction, Smriti Mandhana remains the most expensive WPL player overall, acquired for ₹3.40 crore in 2023, and Ashleigh Gardner and Nat Sciver-Brunt remain the joint-costliest overseas players, purchased for ₹3.20 crore each in the 2023 auction. The WPL 2025 season promises to be an exciting one, with the teams having finalized their squads through this strategic mini-auction.
