Mon Dec 16 06:17:05 UTC 2024: ## AIADMK Criticizes Tamil Nadu DMK Government in General Council Meeting

**Chennai, December 16, 2024** – The AIADMK party issued a scathing critique of the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu during its general and executive council meeting on Sunday. The party, led by general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, passed 16 resolutions highlighting various grievances.

Key criticisms leveled against the DMK government include inadequate preparation and relief efforts in response to recent cyclones, a deteriorating law and order situation, and substantial increases in electricity tariffs, property taxes, milk prices, and stamp duty. The AIADMK also accused the DMK of failing to fulfill electoral promises made to various groups, including government employees, teachers, farmers, and fishermen.

The party specifically targeted the DMK’s handling of the proposed tungsten mining project in Madurai district, criticizing the government’s alleged delay in opposing the Central government’s permit. Further criticisms included the government’s failure to maintain water bodies, pursue inter-state water projects like the Godavari-Cauvery link, and adequately address the NEET exemption issue.

The AIADMK urged the DMK government to conduct a caste census, release convicts imprisoned for over 20 years, and protect the rights of Scheduled Castes. The meeting also observed moments of silence to condole the deaths of several prominent figures, including senior Congress leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan, former Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, and various other political leaders, industrialists, and artists. The party also expressed condolences for the victims of the recent Tiruvannamalai landslip, Cyclone Fengal, a hospital fire in Dindigul, and other incidents.
