**Patna, Bihar –** A notorious criminal wanted in over ten cases, including bank robberies, in Bihar and Haryana was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday night. Akash Yadav, alias Ajay Rai, was shot and killed in the Jakkanpur area of Patna district during an exchange of fire with the Bihar Special Task Force (STF).
The encounter occurred after the STF received intelligence indicating Rai and his associates were hiding in the area. When confronted, the gang opened fire on the officers, resulting in a shootout. One STF sub-inspector was injured during the exchange but is now reported to be in stable condition. Rai, however, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Police recovered a pistol, ammunition, and a mobile phone from the scene. While Rai’s associates escaped, a search operation is underway to apprehend them. The Additional Director General (ADG-Operation) of Bihar Police, Amrit Raj, confirmed the details. Rai’s criminal record spanned multiple states and included numerous bank dacoities.
