**Karachi, Pakistan –** A Chinese business delegation has pledged a $1 billion investment to build Pakistan’s first fully integrated pharmaceutical and medical ecosystem in Karachi’s Dhabeji Economic Zone, officials announced. The announcement follows a meeting between the delegation and President Asif Ali Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the Chinese Consul General.
The medical city represents a significant step in the burgeoning economic relationship between Pakistan and China. The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), which manages the Dhabeji Economic Zone, hailed the investment as a testament to the strengthening bilateral ties.
President Zardari emphasized the importance of further strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two nations, assuring the investors of full government support and facilitation. Chief Minister Shah highlighted the Sindh government’s initiative to introduce Chinese language courses to bridge cultural and communication gaps.
The Chinese delegation expressed interest in investing beyond the healthcare sector, exploring opportunities in agriculture, livestock, energy, transport, and manufacturing. This substantial investment builds upon existing collaborations, including the significant China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
