**Chennai, December 15, 2024** – A 52-year-old man was rescued from his car after it became trapped in floodwaters on a Cooum River causeway near Maduravoyal in the early hours of Saturday. Heavy rains in the Chennai area led to the release of excess water from lakes, causing the Cooum to overflow. Despite police warnings and barricades, Sunil Vargheese, driving from his workplace in Sriperumbudur to his home in Mogappair, attempted to cross the flooded causeway. His car stalled, and he was rescued by police and members of the public using an earthmover. The vehicle was later recovered using a crane.
