Sat Dec 14 21:38:43 UTC 2024: ## Land Survey Errors Spark Disputes in Nelluru District, Andhra Pradesh
NELLURU, Andhra Pradesh – Inaccurate land boundary demarcation in Nelluru district has led to numerous disputes among farmers. A resurvey initiative, following a previous survey conducted by the previous YSR Congress Party government under the “Jagananna Bho Raksha-Bho Suraksha” program, has uncovered widespread inconsistencies.
According to the District Survey and Land Records Officer, Nagasekhar, 8,218 farmers have filed complaints regarding discrepancies. The complaints, received after the current government held village meetings on the resurvey, are categorized into revenue-related issues (4,797) and survey-related issues (3,421).
While drone surveys have been completed across the district’s 735 revenue villages, and village meetings held between October 21st and November 14th, the sheer number of complaints highlights the scale of the problem. Mr. Nagasekhar stated that 1,780 complaints have already been resolved, with a target to address all remaining complaints by the end of January. The resurvey is being conducted using advanced technology, including car networks and rovers, to ensure accuracy, though staffing shortages of Village Revenue Officers (VROs) are hindering the process.
The discrepancies include incorrect names in land records, inclusion of both buyers and sellers’ names, and instances of land titles registered in the names of parents instead of siblings. Mr. Nagasekhar attributes some of the errors to time constraints imposed on surveyors during the previous government’s survey.
The government is committed to resolving these land disputes and ensuring accurate land records through the ongoing resurvey, updating information on the PGARS portal. The initiative aims to provide farmers with accurate and legally sound land titles, rectifying past errors and preventing future disputes.
