Thu Dec 12 19:51:11 UTC 2024: ## Election Commission Orders Review of Delhi Electoral Rolls Amidst AAP Concerns

**New Delhi, December 13, 2024** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed its Delhi poll officials to thoroughly revise electoral rolls, ensuring full transparency and the involvement of political parties. This follows concerns raised by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding alleged voter deletions in AAP strongholds.

AAP, which has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating these deletions – a charge the BJP denies – met with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Wednesday. Following the meeting, the ECI instructed officials to promptly address all complaints from political parties, sharing weekly updates on claims and objections both with parties and on the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s website. Furthermore, no voter deletions are permitted without field verification and prior notice to the affected elector, allowing for a hearing.

AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal subsequently expressed gratitude to the CEC for addressing their concerns regarding “mass voter deletions.” In a letter, Kejriwal highlighted assurances from the CEC, including a commitment to halt deletions based on lists submitted by individuals and to conduct field inquiries with representatives from political parties present. The AAP awaits the ECI’s actions based on these assurances. The ECI’s move aims to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
