Thu Dec 12 09:19:59 UTC 2024: ## Macron Seeks Political Deal to Stabilize France After Prime Minister’s Ouster

**PARIS (December 12, 2024)** — French President Emmanuel Macron is scrambling to forge a political agreement to appoint a new Prime Minister and restore stability to the country following the resignation of Michel Barnier. The move comes after a no-confidence vote last week triggered by budget disputes in the National Assembly left the government paralyzed.

According to a spokesperson for the outgoing government, Maud Bregeon, President Macron is exploring two options. The first involves broadening the existing alliance between centrists and conservatives to include leftist parties, potentially securing a parliamentary majority for the new government. The second option is a deal with opposition left-wing parties to ensure they refrain from further no-confidence votes, even without participating in the government.

While Macron has engaged in discussions with politicians across the political spectrum, notably Socialist leaders, he has excluded the far-right National Rally and the hard-left France Unbowed. Marine Le Pen, whose party supported the no-confidence vote, demanded that the new government address the concerns of French citizens regarding purchasing power.

In the interim, the outgoing government has introduced a temporary bill to ensure the collection of taxes and the smooth functioning of public services until a new budget is approved by Parliament. This temporary measure, expected to pass by the end of the year, paves the way for the new government to present its budget proposal in the coming months. President Macron has yet to set a deadline for the appointment of the new Prime Minister.
