**Chennai, December 13, 2024** – Chennai continues to grapple with heavy rainfall, prompting ongoing flood mitigation efforts. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) reported that 2,149 residents received assistance on Thursday as the city experienced another day of downpour.

According to the GCC’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), an average of 4.956 cm of rainfall was recorded between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on December 12th, bringing the cumulative rainfall since October 1st to 89.135 cm. Inundation has led to road closures on Tidel Park Road (Teynampet zone) and Kotturpuram Bridge Road (Perungudi zone).

The Corporation’s relief operations are extensive, deploying 1,686 motor pumps, 137 high-power pumps, and 484 generators. A total of 361 relief centres are providing food, shelter, and essential supplies. Since October 15th, over 206,972 people have been aided by 4,014 relief camps, with 53 camps assisting 1,834 residents on Thursday alone. Furthermore, the Corporation has cleared 417 fallen trees since October 1st, including eight on December 12th.

The GCC’s helpline (1913) has received 63,688 complaints since October 15th, with 52,337 resolved by Thursday evening. The situation remains fluid, and the corporation continues its efforts to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall.
